Addition Challenges: Find the Question Task Cards

These addition challenges find the question task cards already show children the answers as whole numbers or decimal numbers, requiring children to work out possible addition questions leading to those answers. For example, they may encounter questions like, “If the answer is 57, what could the question be? Can you solve this using addition?” The task cards have large, bold numbers and colourful illustrations of a child holding up the addition sign. Educators can apply their own answers using the included blank copy, catering to various learning abilities.

This resource aims to help children understand that maths involves finding answers and working backwards to discover the questions. It highlights the inverse operation of addition. Moreover, this tool will both challenge and improve their understanding of addition and problem-solving skills.

Our addition challenges: find the question task cards are aligned with KS2 addition on the national curriculum. This primary resource can be used with your ideas for maths activities and games, display boards, teaching material, learning aids, differentiation, homework, and lesson plans.
