12 Times Table Riddle Activity Worksheets

Challenge your class with this 12 times table riddle activity worksheet, where children solve multiplication questions to uncover the punchline of a riddle. Each question, such as 3 × 12 or 8 × 12, is linked to a letter. After working out the answers, pupils match each product to the correct letter below and place it in the matching space to reveal the answer. The riddle at the bottom gives an extra layer of motivation, helping children stay focused while practising their multiplication facts in a fun and engaging way.

Key Curriculum Focus

This KS2 times tables/multiplication worksheet aligns with the national curriculum by supporting:

  • Recalling and applying multiplication facts for the 12 times table
  • Using known facts to solve problems involving missing information
  • Strengthening mental strategies through games and decoding activities

With a built-in puzzle, the 12 times table riddle activity worksheet encourages accuracy and logic. Instead of simply writing answers, pupils must connect each solution to a code and use it to solve the riddle. This approach combines arithmetic with reasoning and gives children a sense of accomplishment once they’ve cracked the final answer, reinforcing fact recall in a purposeful way.

12 Times Table in KS2 Maths

In KS2, children use the 12 times table when calculating with groups, time, arrays and scaling. For example, 12 × 7 = 84 might relate to dozens of items or minute intervals. Pupils deepen their knowledge through repeated practice, games and logic-based activities like riddles that require linking facts to outcomes. These experiences prepare them for more advanced multiplication in upper KS2.

Activity Idea: Secret Code Multiplication

Create your own 12 times table secret code by assigning a number (e.g. 36) to a letter (e.g. A). Pupils must solve 12 times table questions to find the coded letters, then unscramble them to reveal a word or message. You can make this a weekly challenge or display it on the board for morning starters.
