Year 4 | Was or Were Differences Worksheets

In these Year 4 “was” or “were” differences worksheets, your pupils encounter a series of question sentences that start with either “was” or “were”. Their objective is to underline the correct word to ensure the grammatical accuracy of the questions. Subsequently, children will fill in the blanks in sentences by incorporating “was” or “were” to render the sentences meaningful.

This worksheet serves to help children discern the distinction between “was” and “were” and understand their correct usage in sentences. It provides guidance on recognising “was” as the first person and singular past tense form of the verb “to be” and the third person/singular past tense form of the verb “to be”. Simultaneously, the verb “were” is identified as the second-person singular and plural past tense form of the verb “to be”.

Our Year 4 grammar worksheets are aligned with the KS2 national curriculum and complement your primary learning activities, differentiation, homework and lesson plans.
