Year 5 | Audience and Purpose Worksheets

In these Year 5 writing for an audience and purpose worksheets, your class encounters a list of words organised into three groups: text, audience, and purpose. They connect the text to the right audience and purpose by drawing lines, like matching a letter (text) to a shop manager (audience) for making a complaint (purpose). Next, a planning grid with three columns—text, audience, and purpose—is introduced. Your class is informed they will be writing a text and, using this grid, they fill in details to guide their writing, identifying the audience and purpose. Finally, using the gathered information, your learners write their own text, keeping in mind who the audience is and the purpose of the text.

This worksheet empowers your pupils to create their own text while challenging them to identify the appropriate audience and purpose. It reinforces the understanding that every piece of writing is crafted with consideration for these aspects.

Our Year 5 writing composition primary worksheets are aligned with the KS2 national curriculum and complement your primary learning activities, differentiation, homework and lesson plans.
