Year 6 Hyphens Worksheets | KS2 Punctuation | Primary English

Year 6 | Using Hyphens Worksheets

In these Year 6 using hyphens worksheets, children will engage in various activities. They’ll connect phrases with hyphens on the left to their corresponding meanings on the right by drawing lines. For instance, “A cat-chasing dog” will match with “A dog that chases cats”. Following this, they’ll add the missing hyphen in each sentence to enhance the clarity of the meanings. Lastly, pupils will be presented with a pair of phrases, “A man-eating shark” and “A man eating shark”. Their task is to elucidate the distinction between these two phrases through the use of a hyphen.

This worksheet serves as an introduction to hyphens for your class, showcasing how their application can alter the entire meaning of a phrase. It also aims to instil confidence in your learners, encouraging them to incorporate hyphens effectively into their own writing.

Our Year 6 punctuation worksheets are aligned with the KS2 national curriculum and will support your primary learning activities, differentiation, homework and lesson plans.
